As a ten-year-old, Orwell observes a horse doing hard work, which leads him to the thesis that the animal is not aware of its strength until it lives in freedom. This experience inspired Orwell to write his novel «Animal Farm» years later. One night, the animals of a farm decide to oppose the farmer’s rule in order to start a better life. They dream of a world where all animals are equal and all property is shared. But soon, the pigs take control and one of them, Napoleon, becomes the new leader of all the animals. The farm is renamed to Animal Farm. Seven Commandments of Animalism are created and appointed as the philosophy of life. One by one, the principles of the revolution are abandoned, until the animals have even less freedom than before.
Goerge Orwell’s novels are known for their social and political criticism. His most famous works include «1984» and «Animal Farm», which never seem to lose their relevance. First published in 1945, «Animal Farm» – the history of a revolution that went wrong – is George Orwell’s brilliant satire on the corrupting influence of power. It is one of the classic stories of modern English fiction and a powerful study of the use and abuse of political power.
